Following the success of last year’s event, we will again be holding our annual garden competition over the summer. Let's hope we have better weather conditions for gardens after last years dry heat! The competition will be open to all residents who live within Magenta Living’s neighbourhoods, giving everyone a chance to take part and get involved.
The garden competition is one of the main highlights in our calendar and it’s always a pleasure to see our tenants and residents working together, particularly in communal spaces to create a lovely environment for everyone to enjoy.
2019 Garden Competition Categories
You can see the full competition rules on this page and also express an interest in entering your garden via the form below. Further details and an entry form will also be in our next tenant newsletter.
The categories for this year are:
- Communal garden - join up with neighbours to create a great space for everyone to enjoy
- Front Garden - use your talents to showcase your front garden as your own oasis
- Balcony - no matter how small your space is, you can still make it vibrant and colourful
- Vegetable growing - showcase your crop of vegetables no matter how much or little you grow
Vegetable Growing Award!
Are you are a keen gardener who loves to grow vegetables? Or have you always wanted to grow your own and not sure how?
Included in this year’s competition we have introduced a vegetable growing category, which aims to showcase those who may produce a good crop of vegetables or someone who, with little space can still grow vegetables but on a smaller scale.
The judges will be looking for those who grow their own vegetables in an innovative way – do you get your family involved or are you part of a group that grows them together? The variety of what is grown and how you intend to use the vegetables, either for your own use or sharing with neighbours or local families for them to use.
Garden Competition Rules
The competition is open to ALL residents who live within Magenta Living neighbourhoods - not just tenants!
The judging of gardens will take place sometime between July and September.
We will not tell you when we are planning to judge your garden, though we will leave a calling card to let you know we have been to your garden.
The judges will be awarding points for:
- Colour and Design
- Overall Impact
We are not looking for extensive knowledge of plants, but looking at the overall effect and how it enhances the neighbourhood where you live.
If you are shortlisted you will be notified by letter and will receive an invitation to our awards evening in September.
We cannot accept entries for back gardens as the purpose of the competition is to enhance the appearance of your neighbourhood.
