Andrew was referred to WoW by our Financial Inclusion Team in September 2014. He had been claiming Employment Support Allowance for 12 months after leaving a job he had been in for 17 years.
At the time of referral, Andrew was suffering with anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts. After his Work Capability Assessment found him fit to go back to work, he asked for our help.
During his first meeting, it was clear Andrew's lack of confidence was stopping him from getting support. We suggested he attend Launch Pad, a course which covers a range of skills, such as CV writing and interview tips, as well as confidence boosting techniques
The course was a success, and Andrew's confidence was boosted. He applied for a job at Dunelm, and used his new skills gained from Launch Pad to help him through the interviews and assessment days.
Andrew started his new job in February. He popped in to Partnership Building to thank the team, and get more help with his benefits as he moved into work. He said, "I feel like a weight has been lifted. I'm happy and confident and looking forward to the future". What a difference four months can make!
He described the WoW Advisor as "excellent and caring - she wants to work for you and has time for you".
Whether you are at the start of your journey to work or just need a little bit of help, we can help you to gain success, just like Andrew.
