Apply for a home with Magenta Living

Thank you for your interest in renting a home with Magenta Living.

We are the largest affordable housing provider in Wirral, with homes across Wirral, Halton and Cheshire. Our homes are allocated through local councils to make sure housing goes to people who need it most.

We know applying for a home can feel complicated. This guide breaks it down step by step, so you know what to expect and what to do next.

Customers home

Magenta Living homes are allocated through local councils. This helps make sure homes go to people who need them most. You cannot apply directly to Magenta for most rented homes.

This is a councilled process. Magenta does not choose who joins the housing register.

You need to apply through the housing register for the area where the home is located.

Wirral and Halton – Property Pool Plus

Cheshire East – Cheshire Home Choice

Cheshire West – West Cheshire Homes

Once registered, you can bid for available homes.

If you are registered in the wrong area, you will not see the homes you want to apply for.

The council will ask for information about you and your household. They may also ask for documents to support your application.

Giving accurate and uptodate information helps make sure your housing need is assessed correctly.

The council reviews your application and places you into a band, based on your housing need.
This band affects your priority when bidding for homes.

Your band is set by the council, not Magenta, and can change if your circumstances change.

When a Magenta home becomes available, it will be advertised on the council’s choicebased lettings system.

Each advert will show:

  • The rent type

  • Who can apply

  • Any special criteria, such as a local lettings plan

Not all Magenta homes are advertised at the same time. New homes are added as they become available.

If you meet the criteria, you can place a bid during the advertising period. You can usually bid for more than one home.

Bidding does not guarantee an offer. Homes are offered based on priority order.

After bidding closes:

  • The council sends Magenta a shortlist

  • Applicants are listed in priority order

  • We offer the home to the person at the top of the list

  • If the offer is not accepted, we move to the next person.

Being lower on the list does not mean you have done anything wrong. It reflects demand and housing need.

Social rent and affordable rent

Magenta homes are let at either social rent or affordable rent.

The rent type depends on the property, not the customer, and will be clearly shown in the advert. Social rent is usually lower. Affordable rent is higher than social rent but lower than most private rents.

You cannot choose the rent type. It is linked to how the home was funded and built.
