More than 100 Year 7 students from Birkenhead Park School recently visited Magenta Living's Partnership Building for an interactive two-day employability programme, giving young people the opportunity to explore careers, develop workplace skills and learn more about the positive impact housing organisations have on local communities.
Delivered through a partnership between Magenta Living and Birkenhead Park School, the programme introduced students to the wide range of career opportunities available across the housing sector. Throughout their visit, students met colleagues from departments including fire safety, housing, customer services, marketing, finance, HR and IT, gaining first-hand insight into the variety of roles that help support customers across Wirral.
Students took part in a series of interactive workshops designed to build confidence, communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills. Activities included identifying fire hazards in the home, working through HR scenarios, prioritising issues at an IT helpdesk and making financial decisions. During a session led by Magenta's Brand and Marketing team, students were also challenged to create their own social media campaign promoting Magenta in Bloom. Magenta in Bloom is Magenta Living’s annual gardening competition, which encourages customers to showcase and celebrate their outdoor spaces.
The programme gave students the opportunity to ask questions, learn from colleagues and discover how their own interests and skills could be applied in the workplace. It also demonstrated how careers in housing can make a real difference to communities and people's lives.
