Magenta Living, Wirral Council and Potens are celebrating the first anniversary of a specialist supported living scheme in Oxton, Wirral, which is helping people live more independently in homes of their own.

Officially opened in June 2025, the scheme provides 11 self-contained, adapted apartments with 24/7 support available on site. It was developed to help meet local demand for high-quality, personalised homes for people with a range of care and support needs, including people with learning disabilities, autism and mental health conditions.

The homes are owned and managed by Magenta Living, with care and support provided by Potens and commissioned through Wirral Council’s Adult Health and Care team. Together, the partners are working to give residents the right home, the right support and the opportunity to be part of their local community.

For the people who live there, the scheme has already made a meaningful difference. Residents have their own Magenta Living tenancy in long-term, adapted accommodation, giving them greater independence, privacy and choice while knowing support is close by whenever they need it.

Among the residents are John and Nicola, a couple who have been able to share a home for the first time. They enjoy everyday life together, from visiting the gym and cooking healthymeals to making memories in a place they can truly call home.

“It’s great, we can be who we want to be and share our lives with each other,” said Nicola.

Paul McGrady, Magenta Living’s Chief Financial Officer said:

“This scheme was the first in a growing portfolio of specialist supported housing for Magenta Living, helping us respond to increasing need across Wirral and the Liverpool City Region.

“Demand for this type of housing is growing, and we are committed to working with partners to create more homes that give people independence, dignity and choice. This first birthday is a real celebration, and we hope it will be the first of many milestones to come.”

Amanda Wrenn, Head of Supported Housing Acquisitions at Magenta Living, said:

“Spending time here, you can clearly see the difference this scheme is making. People are being supported every day to live the way they want to live, in their own homes and in their own community.“

This really is partnership in action - bringing together Magenta Living, Wirral Council, Potens and, most importantly, the people who live here. It’s a happy, welcoming place for tenants, their families and friends, and we are proud to see it thriving one year on.”

Potens said:

“At Potens, our focus is on supporting people to build confidence, develop independence and live fulfilling lives in their local community. This scheme shows what can be achieved when housing, care and local authority partners work closely together around the needs and aspirations of each person. We are delighted to celebrate the first birthday and to see residents continuing to grow, thrive and enjoy their homes.”

Cllr Julie McManus, Deputy Leader of Wirral Council, said:

“Wirral Council is pleased to be part of this partnership, which is helping more people access the right support in a home of their own. Schemes like this play an important role in supporting independence, choice and wellbeing, while helping people remain connected to their community. One year on, it is fantastic to see the positive impact this accommodation is having for residents and their families.”

The first anniversary is an opportunity to recognise the tenants, families, carers and partner teams who have helped make the scheme such a success. It also highlights the importance of partnership working in creating safe, accessible and supportive homes that help people live well and with greater independence.
