We understand that being asked to leave your home, even for a short time, can be upsetting and disruptive. Your home is your safe space, and we don't take the decision to move you lightly.

Sometimes, though, urgent or major repairs are needed to make your home safe to live in. When this happens, Magenta Living may arrange a temporary move also known as a decant, to make sure you and your household are safe, supported, and kept informed every step of the way.

We'll always try to keep you in your home if we can. But if that's not possible, we'll work with you to find a suitable place to stay and help make the process as smooth and stress-free as possible.

Your Questions Answered About Temporary Moves

A temporary move is when we ask you to leave your home for a short time so we can carry out essential repairs that make it safe or suitable to live in.

You may need to move if:

  • Your home can't be made safe within 24 hours.

  • Repairs are too disruptive for you to stay.

  • There's an emergency (e.g. no heating, water, or electricity).

We'll only ask you to move if it's absolutely necessary for your safety and wellbeing.

Planned moves - for scheduled works that are too intrusive to stay during.

Emergency moves - when urgent repairs are needed and the home is unsafe.

Our Neighbourhood Management Team will manage your move and stay in touch with you throughout. If it's outside normal hours, our Business Escalation Managers will step in to help.

We'll talk to you about what's best for your situation. Options include:

  • Staying with family or friends, if that's possible for you.

  • A Magenta Living guest flat or emergency property.

  • A hotel or B&B if no other options are available.

We'll always try to find a place that suits your needs, including accessibility and pet-friendly options.
