At Magenta Living, your safety is very important to us. We have a legal duty to keep you safe in your home. To do this, we carry out an electrical inspection every five years. This is called an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR).
You must give us access to do this check. It is a legal requirement. If you refuse, it may count as breaking your tenancy agreement.
Smoke, Heat and Carbon Monoxide Detectors
As part of your electrical safety check, we will fit or replace the following if needed:
Smoke detectors
Heat detectors
Carbon monoxide detectors
You must test these every week and keep them in good working order.
What Happens During an Electrical Inspection
Our electrical engineers are fully trained and qualified. Their job is to make sure your home is safe. During your inspection, they will:
Look at the whole electrical system in your home and check any equipment we provide are safe
Make sure there are no serious electrical hazards
Check where the electricity comes into your home
Inspect the consumer unit (please make sure the engineer can easily reach this)
Check protective bonding (this is where pipework is connected to the electrics)
Check the condition of the wiring throughout your home and inspect sockets, switches and lights
Fix any dangerous problems straight away (Category 1 issues) or arrange another visit if extra electrical work is needed
Make sure any new or repaired work meets current safety standards
Provide access to an electrical safety certificate when you move in and again after the inspection is complete

Check Your Consumer Unit: If safe, use a torch to see if any trip switches have gone off. Reset them if necessary
Unplug Appliances: If the power goes off, turn off appliances like irons, ovens, and electric fires
Fridges and Freezers: Keep them closed; they will keep food cool for several hours
Call 105 to report the power cut or visit www.powercut105.com
Alternative lighting: Ensure you have an alternative source of lighting eg torches to hand and avoid using candles. Have a fully charged mobile phone with you.
