We want everyone to feel safe in their home. This means we follow important fire safety rules for all our buildings, including shared areas like hallways and stairs.

Your safety is very important to us and so, we follow the law to make sure all our high‑rise buildings and shared areas meet fire and building safety rules.

We have a special Fire Safety Team. This team checks all our buildings, homes, and shared spaces to make sure they are safe and meet the right standards.

Be prepared for an emergency

Being ready for an emergency can help keep you and your family safe.

Most of our buildings have a “stay put” rule.

This means:

  • If a fire starts in another flat, you are usually safest staying in your own home, unless smoke or heat reaches you.

  • If you’re not sure what the rule is for your building, look at the fire safety notices in the communal area or ask a member of the Magenta Living team.

If you live in a house, make an escape plan with your family.

If smoke blocks your way and you cannot get out, stay in the safest room, call 999, and wait for help. Never assume someone else has made the call - do it yourself.

Once you are outside:

  • Go to your meeting point.

  • Check everyone from your home is out.

  • Wait for the fire service and show them where your home is.

Our commitment to keeping you safe

We work with Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service to keep buildings safe. We:

  • Carry out regular fire risk assessments and carry out any follow on actions with qualified contractors.

  • Check and repair fire doors, emergency lights, alarms and fire safety equipment

  • Create and update emergency plans for each building

How you can help

There are number of things you can do to help keep your building safe.

Keep escape routes clear

Leave items in shared areas can cause accidents, block fire fighters, or help a fire spread. Please don’t leave anything in shared areas including bikes, prams, plants, rubbish and doormats.

Looking after fire doors

Do not wedge fire doors open and please report any damage to fire doors straight away.

Do not tamper with safety systems

Never change your flat entrance door or touch fire alarms or safety equipment. Please contact us if you think someone else has.

Use bin chutes safely

Only put normal household rubbish down the chute. Do not put cigarettes, vapes or anything that could cause a fire down the bin chute.

Charging & Batteries

Lithium‑ion batteries are used in lots of everyday items, like mobile phones, e‑cigarettes, mobility scooters and e‑scooters. These batteries are useful, but if they fail, they can cause fires. Only used products you can trust and never charge unattended.

Check your Smoke Alarms

Test all smoke alarms once a week – this could save your life! Do not cover, remove, or tamper with alarms Report faults to us immediately by contacting Magenta Living.
