Celebrating 50 years!
Magenta Living’s first sheltered housing scheme has turned 50.
Residents of Barncroft sheltered housing in Pensby celebrated in “golden” style recently with lots of balloons, decorations and even a piper!
They all dressed up and enjoyed an anniversary party including food, cake, entertainment and a raffle as they were joined by their friends and family and Magenta Living officers. Local Councillor Mike Sullivan was also in attendance to cut the cake. Cllr Sullivan started the residents association at Barncroft and was previously a happy Magenta Living customer for 10 years.
Magenta Living’s Director of Housing Services, Rachel Bennett, was on hand to join in the festivities. She said:
“It is lovely to see all the residents celebrating this milestone and I feel privileged to be here today. Thank you to all the staff who have worked so hard to make this event the success it is. It is brilliant to see everyone coming together and having a good time.”
Every resident received a goody bag and two of the residents who have been there for over 25 years received a bouquet of flowers each and shared some of the memories of their time at Barncroft.
Margaret Lillie has lived at Barncroft since 1998 and celebrated her 90th birthday on the same day. She said:
“I have made many friends whilst living here and it has always been like a close family.
“There have been many changes at Barncroft over the years but I have been happy living here and I enjoy attending the many social events here along with my sisters who live close by.
“I feel safe living here and that is reassuring for my family. I know help is always at hand.”
Kate Alderson moved into Barncroft 27 years ago, in March 1996. She said:
“It’s a lovely, close community. I have seen many residents come and go and I have lovely memories of those who have sadly passed away over the years. It has always been a safe haven and we welcome other seniors from the local community into Barncroft and they have become friends.
“The staff, both current and retired, continue to work at the many events we enjoy. We are truly lucky to have them. A big thank you to them!”
The scheme was designed for older people giving them access to a community and allowing them to live independently. It provides a safe and secure community, with plenty of social activities, such as bingo, chair based exercises, quiz nights, day trips and more. There is also a communal garden for residents to enjoy.
